- ➤ Mom and nonprofit leader Ty Anderson-Hubler runs KinCultivate—an organization that helps Black youth build confidence through camps and after-school programs. The group partners with local schools to support a sense of belonging in the Mid-Valley. Statesman Journal
- ➤ Salem will suspend paid on-street parking from November 27 until November 30 to boost the holiday season as the city teams up with the Salem Main Street Association and the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce for a four-day event. Today, a Holiday Traditions Parade is set for 5:30 p.m. along Court, High, State, and Liberty streets—Shop Local Saturday on November 29 will offer store specials and incentive deals for shoppers. - ➤ Salem kicks off holiday festivities today with Magic at the Mill running through Dec 1 at 1313 Mill St. S.E.—downtown events include a parade at 5:30 p.m. with Buddy the Elf and Santa's arrival at Riverfront Carousel at noon, with later celebrations like the Capitol tree lighting on Dec 2 and lights kickoff at Riverfront Park on Dec 5. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State employees at Oregon’s Office of Resilience and Emergency Management passed 1,500 boxes filled with non-perishable food in a warehouse south of Salem the week before Thanksgiving+ the effort supported low-income families and improved emergency readiness. The office awarded $10 million in grants to resilience hubs to boost food security and independence amid recent federal changes+ it expanded its role since being formed after major wildfires in 2020. - ➤ Oregon law says dogs cannot enter grocery stores, restaurants, and food establishments unless they are registered service animals—restaurants with outdoor seating may choose to allow dogs but stores are not required to offer extra help like shopping carts. Statesman Journal
