- ➤ Marion Polk Food Share saw record-high demand after SNAP benefits were delayed and local leaders are donating funds to help families in need. Marion County donated $100,000 on Nov. 3 and will send another $100,000 on Monday while Salem council approved a $20,000 contribution on Monday — officials warn that upcoming SNAP and Medicaid cuts in January will worsen food insecurity. - ➤ Salem residents can buy a $5 Mega Millions ticket until 6:59 p.m. today as the jackpot is estimated at $965 million—making it the 8th largest jackpot in history and the biggest since Christmas 2024. The Oregon Lottery said over 650,000 winners have received more than $4.3 million since the jackpot run began on June 28. 1430 KYKN

- ➤ Former state data analyst Jesse Helligso filed a wrongful termination suit on November 5 after saying his warnings about an outdated school funding formula that shortchanged poor students in districts such as Salem-Keizer were ignored and led to his firing. He seeks $556,667 in damages for lost wages and emotional distress plus he claims the formula gives extra funds to wealthier schools rather than to those with many low-income students. Salem Reporter

- ➤ Oregon’s 25-year Energy Strategy published on Wednesday focused on boosting energy efficiency and clean power such as solar and wind rather than considering new nuclear plants. - ➤ City crews in Salem remove fallen leaves with street sweepers and, in tree-heavy areas, dump trucks—efforts aimed at preventing storm drain blockages and property damage. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department announced on Nov 13 that projects at Silver Falls and Smith Rock parks, including a new campground and visitor’s center, are on hold due to a $14 million shortfall—agency officials said the remaining $15 million from bond funds will support smaller maintenance projects until extra funding is available. - ➤ Oregon Parks and Recreation Department completed three GO Bond projects at Beverly Beach, Nehalem Bay and Fort Stevens’ Guard House as part of a $50 million plan to upgrade park infrastructure—Silver Falls finished part of its project last year to ease parking and improve access. Additional work on Fort Stevens’ campground, Cape Lookout and Silver Falls’ visitor center will begin in 2026 while projects at Kam Wah Chung, Smith Rock, Champoeg and Silver Falls’ campground are postponed until more funding is available. 1430 KYKN
