- ➤ Josh Hammer has joined Salem Podcast Network as part of a partnership with Newsweek and Salem Media Group — his daily, video-first show will launch on October 16 — adding his sharp political commentary to the network's roster. 1430 KYKN
- ➤ Neighborhood groups in Salem are planning many events this October, like park clean-ups, public meetings, and a ribbon cutting for affordable housing. They are also hosting peace walks, kids' clothing swaps, and asking the city to ease mural permits—efforts that aim to address local needs. Salem Reporter
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Oct. 16 at 10:16 a.m., the Great Oregon ShakeOut will occur—a one-minute drill that asks residents to drop, cover and hold on during an earthquake. Over 570,000 people are registered to join, and the drill is part of a state effort to boost earthquake readiness along the Cascadia Subduction Zone. Statesman Journal
- ➤ Daylight saving time will end at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, so Oregonians will set their clocks back one hour for extra sleep. The change will bring earlier sunrises and sunsets, and pending law to keep permanent daylight saving awaits Congress’ approval. Statesman Journal
- ➤ Marion County mailed tax statements on October 14 after certifying the 2025-26 Property Tax Roll on October 2, which showed a 5.58% rise in total property values to $76.68 billion and an average 8% tax increase for Salem homes due to new local levies and bond changes.
