🎭 Culture
Salem galleries and museums feature five exhibits this month showcasing Indigenous art, local winemaking, hometown narratives, Celilo Falls images and fabric heritage.
Key dates include artist talks on Sept. 12 and 27 at the Salem Art Association and an opening reception on Sept. 26 at Stefani Art Gallery.
🎓 Education
At a Tuesday meeting, the Salem-Keizer School Board approved 11 factors that district officials must use to decide which up to eight public elementary schools to close in 2027.
Superintendent Castañeda will return on Oct. 13 with a recommended list, and community members voiced concerns at the Aug. 25 meeting.
Salem-Keizer students are heading back to class for the 2026-27 school year, with first grade at Brush College Elementary working on 'Welcome to First Grade' sheets on Sept.
9 and Principal Bridget West directing the Pledge of Allegiance.
🏥 Health
More than 600,000 Oregon Health Plan members may face new work requirements + increased renewal frequency after notification letters are sent later this month, though many will be affected only in 2027.
Health officials warned some members might lose coverage during the phased changes.
