  • Dreamies Creamery—a family-run business making ice cream from sheep’s milk—opened its second location at The Forge in downtown Salem. The shop welcomes customers until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and plans to expand to support local farmers.  Salem Reporter

CRIME NEWS

  • A Salem teenager admitted to a second-degree murder charge in Marion County Juvenile Court after he shot classmate José in Bush’s Pasture Park on March 7—he also wounded two other boys—he avoided adult trial and will serve his sentence at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility until he turns 25.  Salem Reporter
  • The FBI is asking anyone in Salem who may have been tricked by Bene Market Group or its affiliated companies to share details or documents—tips that will help the agency with a health care fraud investigation, which has raised concerns over false texts and forged signatures.  1430 KYKN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Salem-Keizer School District has expanded its hands-on behavioral health training to help staff, including bus drivers, reduce injuries from student incidents after a state safety review flagged high injury rates. The new courses—ranging from a single day to a week—teach safe restraint techniques and have led to fewer severe injuries last school year.  Salem Reporter

  • Salem city council will discuss a report that states $3 million in subsidies is needed to attract a new airline to the airport—this report offers options for low-cost and legacy carriers that could resume service by summer or fall. Council members will also consider several appointments and review new apartment development projects at the 6 p.m. meeting Monday at Loucks Auditorium at Salem Public Library.  Salem Reporter

  • Governor Newsom, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek, and Washington Governor Bob Ferguson announced the West Coast Health Alliance, with Hawaii joining the group the next day to challenge federal health guidelines—promising to set evidence-based immunization recommendations that break from HHS and CDC policies.  1430 KYKN
