On Aug. 14, five Union Gospel Mission volunteers cleaned downtown streets at 7 a.m. They wore blue and yellow vests (with the shelter’s logo) as they used bright orange bags to collect trash and show community pride.

Salem will host a busy week of events including a screening of Zootopia 2 at Riverfront Park, a Y2K-themed museum evening at Gilbert House Children's Museum, and two clay-making marathons at Willamette Art Center (Aug.
20–26).

Sprague High School is hosting a two-week band camp that started yesterday as students rehearse for the upcoming marching band season — the band booster club is asking the community for support with scholarships.

A new PitchBook report shows that private equity health care deals dropped 18.5% last year after Oregon’s 2025 law banned firms from controlling local clinics.
The law, effective since January 2026, aims to protect clinical decisions + lessen corporate influence.

Jan Ober, a Salem resident, is preparing to compete in the United States Blind Golf Association national tournament in Birmingham (Alabama) as she represents local talent on a national stage.
