- ➤ The Ironman 70.3 triathlon held on July 20 brought over 2,500 racers together with more than 1,000 volunteers who helped an injured racer and cheered each finisher—local figures like Salem Councilwoman Linda Nishioka and Forrest Good celebrated personal milestones while first woman finisher Marley Beckett and a surprise proposal added memorable moments to the event. - ➤ Harvest Music reopened in West Salem under owner Ron Caton after nearly two years since longtime owner Brian Cossack died in December 2023— the new store now holds thousands of CDs, vinyl and posters moved from the old location on Memorial Day and will host community events like open-mic nights and a grand opening in August. Williams, a Bend man accused of stabbing 11 people at Union Gospel Mission, may be sent to Oregon State Hospital for three months of mental health care if a judge finds him unfit to stand trial, and he entered a not guilty plea in court on Monday—his next hearing is set for Monday, July 28 at 8:30 a.m. Salem Reporter

- ➤ State lawmakers let a constitutional climate amendment die in committee — advocates have filed an initiative petition so voters can directly decide on the measure.
