- ➤ On Friday, April 24, sixth graders from Stephens Middle School joined AAUW and city Parks + Recreation to plant over 30 native and maple trees behind the school in honor of Arbor Day and Salem’s Tree City of the Year award while celebrating 50 years as a founding Tree City USA member. - ➤ After a warm winter that left dry conditions and record-low snowpack, Oregonians face a potentially active wildfire season this summer. - ➤ The City of Salem has proposed a Waste Reduction Policy to cut excess waste, lower disposal costs, and reduce emissions by minimizing reliance on far-away landfills.
