- ➤ Salem Reporter highlights a new CERT training series that will arm residents with essential skills for emergencies. The program starts Thursday, April 9 at Fire Station #6 Training Room (sessions continue weekly through mid-May with a final hands-on drill). Salem Reporter
- ➤ Salem is closing two playgrounds in Riverfront Park and Bush’s Pasture Park on Monday, April 13 so Dalke Construction can upgrade play areas for families. The projects will replace Riverfront’s playground and refresh Bush’s Pasture’s play surface, and visitors should plan ahead to use other park amenities during the work. 1430 KYKN

- ➤ Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries confirmed on Monday, Apr. 6 that scammers targeted Spanish-speaking workers by using phone, email, and social media + tricking them into paying fees for fake hearings; the agency advised workers to verify communications and avoid paying for benefits. - ➤ City crews began work on a $6 million remodel of Marion Parkade (538 Liberty St. N.E.) to improve safety with transparent stairwells and updated lighting; the project is expected to finish by November. Salem Reporter
- ➤ The city is renovating Marion Parkade at 538 Liberty St. NE, April 6, to update stairs, canopies and signage while keeping parking open — traffic and overnight work are set on High Street NE from May 26 to June 1 and on Liberty Street NE from Sept. 14 to 18. Salem Business Journal

- ➤ Amit Bhavan, M.D. has been named permanent chief medical officer at Oregon State Hospital after serving as interim since Aug. 1, 2025. The appointment follows a rigorous selection process & he will lead efforts to maintain high-quality psychiatric care for patients. 1430 KYKN
- ➤ Two Keizer businesses—Solar Nails at 4910 River Road N. and Pho Keizer at 3400 River Road N.—were linked to a measles exposure on March 30, and visitors have been urged to contact their healthcare provider for immunity testing.
