- ➤ Emma Keen, a Salem high school junior at the Oregon School for the Deaf, won the state 2026 Poetry Out Loud contest on March 7 and will represent Oregon at the national finals (April 27-29) in Washington, D.C. Statesman Journal
- ➤ A third-year student at Willamette University completed a 10-week legislative internship at Capital Chronicle today. Working inside the Capitol, she gained firsthand experience covering bills and public hearings before stepping into her new role as editor-in-chief of her campus newspaper. Oregon Capital Chronicle
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Oregon Health Authority warns Salem families to avoid gifting live poultry for Easter due to the threat of Salmonella infection, especially in young children (who may handle chicks and ducklings without washing their hands). Statesman Journal
- ➤ Hundreds of local children lost access to speech and occupational therapy services after a Salem-area clinic changed its operations (officials are reviewing the reasons). Statesman Journal
- ➤ Oregon health officials urged unvaccinated residents to get the measles vaccine after confirming 13 cases in 2026. They noted potential exposures in Portland, Gresham and West Linn and stressed that the vaccine is highly effective — residents should seek inoculation promptly. Statesman Journal

- ➤ SilverSphere Capital will buy the former Truitt cannery on Front Street NE ($150M project) for a riverfront redevelopment that will add 382 apartments, retail space and a public pathway.
