- ➤ The 8th Salem Qingming festival will celebrate spring at Salem Pioneer Cemetery on Saturday, April 4 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., featuring a proclamation by Mayor Julie Hoy and traditional music and poetry by Willamette University students (honoring a legacy first celebrated by Salem’s Chinese community in the 1800s). - ➤ Cascade School District is asking voters to approve a $30 million bond to repair roofs, upgrade heating systems & add facility improvements in six schools in Aumsville, Turner and surrounding areas on May 19, keeping tax rates at $1.09 per $1,000 and unlocking a $10.2M state grant if approved. - ➤ Salem-Keizer School District plans to cut 130 jobs for the 2026-27 school year via teacher transfers and staff reassignments due to declining enrollment, with early retirees receiving a $5,000 bonus announced on April 2 and final decisions by June 30. Salem Reporter
