- ➤ Salem is hosting a She's Speaking Live concert at the Historic Grand Theatre today with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., part of statewide International Women's Day celebrations honoring women's cultural and historical contributions. Statesman Journal

- ➤ Salem’s teacher union received a $1M grant from the Mountain West Center for Community Excellence on March 5 to fund classroom management training, reinstate a teacher home visiting program, and boost classroom libraries; training for hundreds of teachers will run for the next year and a half. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Oregon legislators passed a bill to curb battery-sparked fires at garbage facilities, trucks and landfills. The law creates a battery recycling program that requires producer groups to submit a plan by Sept. 1 and start operations by July 1 — it now awaits Gov. Tina Kotek’s signature. Statesman Journal

- ➤ Lawmakers will vote on SB5701 by March 8 to spend $2.1 million to acquire 200 acres including the popular 92-foot Abiqua Falls located an hour east of Salem, keeping the 0.8-mile trail open for everyone. - ➤ Salem allocated a one-time $200,000 social services fund among four local nonprofits (Mano a Mano, Salem Housing Authority, Marion Polk Food Share, and Legal Aid Services) to help residents with housing, legal aid, and food needs, with contracts requiring funds be used by June 30.
