EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Oregon public schools and universities will begin spring break on Monday, March 23 and end Friday, March 27. Some districts, such as Woodburn and Dallas, have no school on March 20 and Eugene will hold classes starting March 31 after a no-school day on March 30. Statesman Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Oregon law allows sleeping in your car at rest stops for up to 12 hours in 24 hours but prohibits tents. Violators at split outposts can be banned for up to a year & enforcement is by the Oregon State Police. Statesman Journal
- ➤ Army Corps said Detroit Lake will be drawn down to support fish populations and kept at a lower level for two weeks later this year, and Salem is preparing to use backup water sources if sediment disrupts its treatment plant (drawdown set for November or December). Salem Reporter
- ➤ Oregon residents will spring forward at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 8 — they lose one hour of sleep but gain more evening daylight. The change follows long-standing practice even as legislators await Congress action on permanent daylight saving time. Statesman Journal
