If you've got a burn pile in mind, check before you light it. All Oregon Department of Forestry districts have terminated fire restrictions, ending the 2026 fire season. More than 2.5 million acres burned statewide across all jurisdictions, according to the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center. That tops the 2024 record of 1.9 million.

Many structural fire departments may still require a permit for debris burning, and slash burning requires one year-round. Check the Before You Burn website or your local office first. In ODF's Central Oregon District, fire season ended at 12:01 a.m. Nov. 4.

  • ODF-protected lands: about 1,023 fires, 226,557 acres burned
  • ODF brought in 280 resources from 19 states, provinces and territories
  • Last winter's reduced snowpack led to drought and dry fuels
  • Central Oregon: permit needed in Prineville/Sisters and The Dalles units
