20 in Salem, where every child received a toy and extra community resources were available.

Salem city officials lifted the flood evacuation order Friday night as local creeks receded to safer levels—five parks remain partially closed with high water warnings, and the Willamette reached 21.95 feet by 9:45 a.m. Saturday before steadily decreasing.

Heavy rainfall caused Salem to overflow 2.844 million gallons of diluted sewage into the Willamette River at the 100 block of Union Street NE from 6:30 p.m. Dec.

18 to 8:30 a.m. Dec. 19. Five additional overflows occurred, and residents are advised to avoid water contact as quality tests continue.

After high water, Salem area creeks have subsided and the Level 1 (BE READY) alert is lifted; sandbag filling stations remain available.

City staff shifted focus to water levels on the Willamette River after it crested at 10 a.m. on Saturday as some parks and streets stayed closed.
