- ➤ Most grocery stores in Oregon, including Safeway, Fred Meyer, Walmart, and Trader Joe’s, will be closed on Christmas with early closures on Christmas Eve so residents should finish shopping by Dec. 24 + some 24-hour convenience stores will remain open. Statesman Journal

- ➤ A national report shows Oregon is last in fourth-grade reading with 48% of students below basic level while Mississippi’s science-based approach boosted learning. Experts urge state officials to adopt similar methods to help 545,000 K-12 students improve reading skills. Salem Reporter
