EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Thursday, senators and 83 bipartisan lawmakers urged House leaders to vote on renewing the Secure Rural Schools Act, which lapsed in 2023 and had provided tens+ millions in funding to rural schools and services such as those in Klamath County.  Oregon Capital Chronicle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A strong atmospheric river is forecast to hit Oregon early next week — bringing heavy rains and a risk of minor flooding in streams near Salem and beyond. The warm system, which will not produce snow in the Cascades, may also cause strong winds and potential power outages.  Statesman Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Marion County, Polk County and Salem met on Tuesday, Dec. 2 to plan a joint response for camping, public safety, and homelessness at Wallace Marine Park. Local officials and community services staff reviewed recent events and outlined next steps to better support park residents (and balance community needs).  Salem Reporter

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Dec. 5, the West Coast Health Alliance recommended newborns receive a hepatitis B vaccine at birth despite CDC panel advice suggesting a delayed schedule if the mother tests negative.
