- ➤ Subatomic Vintage Toys opened Wednesday morning at 1910 Commercial St. S.E. in Salem as co-owners CJ Nelson and Tom Engen transformed the former estate sale space into a store with thousands of vintage toys from Star Wars, Barbie, Hot Wheels and more (open Wed-Sun 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.). - ➤ Festive events abound this week in Salem as Willamette University choral concert runs today and tomorrow at Rogers Music Center, while a holiday market, carousel crafts and Powerland Heritage Park’s drive-through lights take place on Saturday, and Salem Cinema hosts a benefit screening of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest on Dec.9. - ➤ Salem's Honeywood Winery (established in 1934) remains the oldest operating winery here and marks a long winemaking tradition that continues to inspire the community. Statesman Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Survivors of the 2020 wildfires may complete HARP’s eligibility questionnaire by Dec. 31 to access help for rebuilding, repairing, or replacing their homes as part of ReOregon. Oregon Housing and Community Services expanded eligibility this month to support more applicants before the year ends. 1430 KYKN
- ➤ On Dec. 3, the Oregon Lottery transferred over $887 million to support state parks, schools, veteran services and economic development during the 2025 fiscal year. The funding includes $9 million in unclaimed prizes and is about $60 million lower than last year due to the absence of 2024 administrative savings. 1430 KYKN
- ➤ The Oregon State Capitol’s Grand Tree Lighting on Dec. 2 had a brief malfunction when the lights did not turn on as expected but later illuminated. Visitors saw the display continue as the event marked the holiday season. Statesman Journal
