COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Turner, located in Marion County, has a 70-acre lake and the Enchanted Forest — natural attractions that shape the city.  Statesman Journal
  • Several downtown Salem roads will close on Nov. 28 for the fourth annual holiday parade; the route will start at 5:30 p.m. on Court Street NE and end with a Christmas tree lighting at Commercial and Court—closures begin at 3 p.m. and free parking is offered from Nov. 27 to Nov. 30.  Statesman Journal
  • Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 271 delivered a record 250 Thanksgiving meal kits on November 21 to veterans and others in the mid-Willamette Valley with the help of more than a dozen volunteers who assembled kits containing turkey, potatoes, and other essentials—each kit coming from donations and local discounts. The chapter plans to deliver a similar or larger number for Christmas, aiming for about 500 kits this year.  Salem Reporter

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bird expert Harry Fuller reported that wild turkeys in Salem roam local streets and gardens as they forage for food and rest. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife estimates that 40,000 to 45,000 turkeys live statewide — and their flocks in Marion County have grown since their introduction in 1961.  Salem Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ODOT said drivers heading south for Woodburn Premium Outlets tomorrow should expect heavy traffic near Exit 271 on Interstate 5, and they are setting up no-parking signs, overhead message boards, and extra road signs to help clear the backups + direct vehicles onto alternate routes like Donald-Aurora Exit 278. Crews will also guide drivers away from the congested ramp to reduce delays.  Statesman Journal
