Salem nonprofits and businesses are holding holiday drives to collect food, coats, toys and winter gear for families and people in need this season.

The Community Care Drive, a toy drive for teen parents and survivors and other efforts will run until mid-December+ local residents can drop off donations at various sites.

Bridgetown Musical Theatre will present the holiday musical The World According to Snoopy!!! at the Verona Studio Theatre in the historic Reed Opera House from December 11th to December 14th—featuring a local cast of youth ages 11 to 18 in a revised adaptation of Charles M.

Schulz’s Peanuts characters that is expected to boost Salem’s arts and business scene.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to gradually lower Detroit Lake starting in December 2026—dropping it to its lowest level ever to aid endangered salmon migration while keeping drinking water safe for Salem's 210,000 residents.

Public meetings will be held on November 19 and in early December in both Detroit and Salem to collect community input on the plan.
