The Mediterranean oak borer, an invasive beetle that can transmit a harmful fungus to Oregon white oaks, was found in Marion and Polk counties and in summer traps across Clackamas, Multnomah, Washington and Yamhill counties.

Officials said the pest is firmly established in the northern Willamette Valley — and researchers are still evaluating its impact on native trees.
