Passengers boarding the Cascades line from Salem station will ride Amtrak's new Airo trainsets tomorrow, Sept.
30. The trains featuring colors inspired by the Cascades and upgraded amenities were previewed on Sept. 26 in Portland.
🎓 Education
On Sept. 9, Brush College Elementary showed empty classrooms, part of a low enrollment trend in Salem-Keizer where seven schools are below 60% capacity + district leaders will consider these numbers among 11 factors when deciding which schools to shutter.
🏛️ Government
Marion County Fire District No. 1 received a $512K FEMA grant to fund volunteer positions, training and gear over the next four years.
The board is reviewing the award since it does not cover the full cost of a volunteer coordinator.
