Salem-Keizer Public Schools reported strong gains in third-grade literacy—reading and writing scores increased from 25.3% to 29.7%—but statewide tests released Thursday show most students still perform below grade level.

Abiqua Falls is nearing public access after state officials approved a $2 million purchase of a 40-acre falls site & 160-acre surrounding land.
The Parks & Recreation Department is drafting a plan for access, safety & operations to be proposed in November before the sale closes in December.
