  • Family business owners of Minuteman Press in Salem and Tigard had a busy year as Craig Davidson was named Volunteer of the Year by the Tigard Chamber of Commerce and their Salem shop signed a deal to print materials for the new Marion Berries baseball team. They say they will deepen community ties and update operations while keeping family tradition alive+ serving local business needs.  Salem Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Classical pianist Hunter Noack dazzled Salem crowds as he performed outdoors at Riverfront Park on Sept. 19, 2025 with his 1912 Steinway grand piano—inviting audience members to lie beneath the nine foot instrument to experience its full acoustics while others listened with wireless headphones as they strolled the park.  Salem Reporter

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • An environmental group surveyed Oregon water and found that five communities—Springfield, Klamath Falls, Redmond, La Grande and Canyon Ridge—have drinking water with levels of chromium, nitrate and arsenic linked to cancer risk. The study also found that some Willamette Valley systems, including Salem, exceed chromium guidelines and may prompt a review by regulators.  Statesman Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new study from the Urban Institute shows that if Congress does not extend Affordable Care Act subsidies before they end this year, nearly 5M people in Oregon and seven other states will face steep premium hikes next year and many will lose their coverage—governors from 18 states have urged lawmakers to act fast to keep affordable health care available.  Oregon Capital Chronicle
  • Northwest Human Services expanded its downtown clinic hours to help homeless patients with injuries and chronic conditions from lack of shelter, and the drop-in center now sees more walk-ins while coordinating with West Salem to provide needed medications and social services—staff report that patient visits have risen and plans to remodel the space and pilot telehealth services are underway. This initiative aims to offer continuous care and address the complex health needs of the local community.  Salem Reporter
