Good morning, Salem. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 31st of August.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal appeals court reinstated Oregon’s 2018 prescription drug law that requires drug companies to report reasons for price increases—reversing a 2024 ruling and aiming to boost transparency. The 2-1 decision lets the state collect pricing data to help consumers.  Salem Reporter
  • Salem is inviting community members to apply for one seat open to all and three seats for representatives from the library, parks and Center 50 plus programs to oversee levy funds passed in May. Applicants must submit online by Sept. 26 and show experience in financial planning, auditing or operations—skills needed to help manage an estimated $14 million in revenue for fiscal year 2026.  Statesman Journal
  • On Sept. 1, many government offices, banks, post offices, DMV services and schools in Oregon will be closed for Labor Day—while emergency services remain available and the Legislature special session is expected to continue its work.  Statesman Journal
  • On Friday, the House did not have enough lawmakers to vote on a transportation funding plan that would help save 500 jobs, so it adjourned until today. Union leaders warned that if the debate does not lead to action soon, many transportation workers could soon lose their jobs — a concern that adds pressure to the rescheduled session.  Salem Reporter
