CRIME NEWS

  • Antonio I. Benjamin (53) was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison Tuesday for running an illicit operation that shipped marijuana-infused candy from a southeast Salem warehouse and helped launder millions through illegal mail orders.  Salem Reporter
  • Salem Police are investigating two fatal shootings that occurred overnight, one at the 1600 block of 40th PL SE near Carson DR SE where a 30-year-old man died after being shot at about 12:30 a.m.—the other at Wallace Marine Park where a 60-year-old man fatally sustained multiple gunshot wounds at 1:30 a.m., with detectives treating the incidents as isolated and unrelated.  1430 KYKN
  • Two men died in separate shootings early Wednesday morning when a 30-year-old was fatally shot near 40th Place and Southeast Carson Drive as police closed the road—while a 60-year-old man died at Wallace Marine Park after being rescued from a homeless camp, police said the incidents are unrelated.  Salem Reporter

  • Paradise of Samoa will host its 14th Annual Luau and Fair at Keizer Rapids Park on Saturday, Aug. 30 from noon to 8:30 p.m. The free fair ends at 4 p.m.—the luau buffet, costing $30 per person, will start around 5 p.m. with cultural performances, artisan vendors and a fire dance that supports youth scholarships.  Salem Reporter
