Center 50+ in Salem is closed for annual maintenance until September 1 while staff remain available by phone from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday—crews are painting and cleaning the building to prepare for the upcoming season.

City leaders are planning to bring commercial air service back to Salem Airport by exploring community fundraising, low-cost carriers, and federal grants for a Minimum Revenue Guarantee—an agreement expected to cost $1.5 to $4 million—and will discuss funding details at a Sept.
8 council meeting. Officials are working quickly to retain TSA screening equipment before it is removed so the airport can attract a new carrier.
At Silver Falls State Park, international tree climbers have joined the Tree Climbers Rendezvous that began on Aug.
23rd and continues today. Nearly 30 climbers from the US, Japan, Korea, Costa Rica, and Mexico scaled approved Douglas firs+ guides helped ensure safe climbs and shared presentations on art and the environment.
