EDUCATION NEWS

  • Woodburn High School senior Isabella Baldisseri was elected as KeyClub International's 2025-26 president—she has served in several leadership roles since joining as a freshman and now serves on local boards while planning to study pre-law next year.  Statesman Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Salem officials enforce strict RV parking rules that limit parking on streets less than 30 feet wide and ban sleeping occupants on public streets—RVs over set dimensions cannot be parked overnight or remain longer than allowed and require a temporary placement license if used for extended residence. City code compliance handles complaints and issues notices when residents park their RVs improperly.  Statesman Journal
  • The Oregon Department of Revenue is urging taxpayers to complete an anonymous IRS survey—open through September 2—to help improve free tax filing options including Direct File Oregon. More than 13,000 Oregonians filed returns using the service for tax year 2024, and officials expect the feedback to shape future filing programs.  1430 KYKN
  • The final Salem Public Works bridge-strengthening project funded by the 2022 Safety and Livability Bond will begin Aug. 25 on the 17th Street NE bridge over Mill Creek. City staff said the work will add an access platform, remove asphalt, and install reinforcing steel—drivers and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution as the project is expected to finish in October.  Statesman Journal
