Reviving a long-standing local service club, Soroptimist International of Salem Area launches its return under co-president Tracy Learn after folding in 2014.
It will hold a Fun Run/Walk at Santiam Golf Club on Sept. 22 at 5:30 p.m. to raise funds and recruit members + support women’s education grants.

Fiesta Mexicana celebrated its 62nd anniversary in Woodburn — honoring Latino community culture through traditional displays and local festivities that brought residents together.
New carnival rides, improved infrastructure and free America 250 Live shows will debut at the Oregon State Fair beginning Aug.
28. The fair, held at the Fairgrounds in Salem, will include musical acts, rides for kids + premium attractions funded by DAS to enhance guest comfort.
Today, Woodburn hosts the final day of the 62nd Fiesta Mexicana—uniting the community with parades, live performances, and cultural displays.
The three-day celebration, which began on Aug. 21, offers a vibrant showcase of traditions and arts.

Salem city attorneys filed a request in federal court on Aug.
21 to stop the Army Corps of Engineers from starting a deep drawdown of Detroit Reservoir, which they say could harm the city’s water filtration systems for 220,000 residents. The agency plans to lower the reservoir starting Nov. 1.
