- ➤ A fire on July 21 damaged the shuttered Shari’s restaurant in southeast Salem and caused $2 million in damage when investigators said it likely started with discarded cigarettes or an intentional act by a nearby RV resident — 21 firefighters and seven fire vehicles quickly brought the blaze under control — while records show the area had seen similar small fires before. - ➤ Local bird expert Harry Fuller reports that peafowl are seen in several areas in the Willamette Valley – including a group near Clark Creek Park in south Salem – as they become part of the local wildlife.
