- ➤ Construction crews are making steady progress at Geer Community Park in Salem while most areas remain closed, with a new skatepark, dog park, and upgraded soccer and baseball fields set to open later this year or next spring — local contractors are advancing work on fields and pedestrian paths under a bond and state grant. 1430 KYKN

- ➤ Monmouth resident Mackenzie Newland launched The Reading Nest to improve literacy in rural Polk County by hosting story times and pop-up events for young children. The nonprofit received over 2,000 book donations and will run events at low-income housing facilities starting August 27 while a mobile library bus is planned for spring 2026—The Reading Nest aims to bring free books to those in need.
