GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • During an Aug 11 meeting, Mayor Julie Hoy said more public restrooms downtown are not a viable solution due to past vandalism—despite police records showing only one incident in Marion Square Park, advocates say the remark unfairly targets the homeless. The city will hold a meeting on Aug 20 to include homeless advocates and community members in discussions on public safety, mental health, and sanitation.  Salem Reporter

HEALTH NEWS

  • Medicare coverage for Oregon seniors and disabled people remains mostly unchanged today despite new federal spending laws; experts warned that cuts starting in 2026—removing up to 4% of funding each year—could impact hospitals and patients with dual enrollment.
