Salem-Keizer Public Schools are reopening community lunch spaces this summer to serve full meals after federal policy changed the program rules — a move that lets children and families gather onsite and build community while fighting food insecurity.

Salem-Keizer Public Schools have named new principals and assistant principals for the 2026-27 school year.

The appointments include Robin Shobe as director of early childhood education — with Ranae Quiring supporting the discipline office and new leaders at McKay, McNary, Roberts, Sprague, Straub, and Swegle schools.

Salem's Backbone youth board, made up of members from 11 to 24 with lived homelessness experiences, helps direct state funds for homeless support services.

The group is seeking new members + will return to Punx in Park festival on Sept 5 to expand its outreach.

Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield announced Wednesday that Glenmark settled price-fixing allegations for $29.6 million, with Oregon receiving $316,000.

Oregonians who purchased Glenmark drugs from May 2009 to December 2019 may be eligible for settlement funds + the company agreed to cooperate in ongoing investigations.

Oregon Health Authority recorded 15 cases of cyclosporiasis in April, May and June and the CDC has yet to link any cases to the current outbreak as of July 13 — residents should thoroughly wash produce to prevent infection.
