Silverton Area Community Aid opened its new food pantry today at 1030 N 1st St—it is set up like a grocery store with a play area for kids and a laundry room for members.

Police arrested a fourth suspect in connection with the June 30 shooting at a south Salem McDonald's parking lot—on July 11 a 17-year-old was taken into custody at 10:00 p.m. at an apartment in the 5900 block of Park CT SE after a loaded handgun was found.

The City of Salem began a Housing Code Project to update zoning rules and boost housing development.

The Community Planning and Development Department is working with developers and residents to review building design rules and the approval process — residents can share their ideas via email or phone — to remove key barriers for new housing.
