🎓 Education
Young people in Oregon who have experienced homelessness may get tuition and fee help from ODHS if they enroll in a public college course and meet eligibility (being under 25 and having received program services).
The waiver covers remaining costs and can be applied for at any time.
🏛️ Government
State agencies under DAS authority — announced last week — now will give certified Oregon small businesses a new preference in state contracts up to $250,000.
Salem-area vendors who complete OSBE certification can gain an advantage in securing public projects.
A judge on Tuesday questioned the Mid-Willamette Valley Council of Governments’ decision to fire the Safe Routes to School coordinator for wearing a shirt showing Ruby Bridges in a Norman Rockwell portrait.
The ruling is prompting a review of a state law signed last year + raising community concerns.
🏥 Health
Today, the Oregon Health Authority is awarding almost $97M in new federal funding to support 136 rural health projects across every county.
The grants include nearly $80M in Catalyst Awards and $17M in Immediate Impact Awards, with award negotiations set to be finalized this summer.
Salem Health and Santiam Hospital & Clinics asked state officials for emergency approval to acquire a rural Marion County hospital that leaders warn may face insolvency.
They withdrew their initial filing on Friday, July 3.
Santiam Hospital in Stayton and Salem Health filed an emergency request on July 8 to exempt their merger from state review, aiming to secure approval by Aug.
1 so Santiam Hospital can avoid insolvency and finalize the deal by Sept. 30.
