- ➤ The West Salem Lions Club will host free summer concerts at West Salem Park — 351 Rosemont Ave. NW on Thursdays in July at 6:30—8:30 p.m. The 40th-anniversary series features bands such as the Salem Big Band and Ty Curtis Band and is supported by local sponsors and volunteers. Salem Reporter
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On May 17, a fight at a downtown bar turned into a shooting that hurt a 24-year-old woman when a Woodburn man named Jovani J. Bravo fired several shots at a car on State Street — he was charged with attempted second-degree murder, attempted first-degree assault, second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon and was set to appear in court Monday afternoon. - ➤ Starting July 10, downtown Salem will have paid on-street parking with new pay stations that accept coins and cards + a mobile app for quick errands. Free parking will remain in parking garages while parking ambassadors help customers + visitors adjust to the new system. 1430 KYKN
- ➤ Oregon Heritage awarded 20 grants totaling $300,000 to support historic property and archaeology projects across the state—six grants in the Diamonds in the Rough category will fund façade enhancements in Burns, Lebanon, Malin, Portland, Roseburg and Salem while 14 grants support National Register projects and a study at Southern Oregon University. 1430 KYKN
- ➤ The state laid off 483 transportation workers who will work until July 31 due to a funding gap, and Gov. Kotek warned that a second round of layoffs is expected in early next year—rural areas and winter road services will suffer most. Lawmakers may still meet for an emergency session to find a fix.
