Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 7th of July.
Good morning, Salem.
A new Oregon law signed on June 24 will raise boating permit fees and require every boat—including kayaks, paddleboards, and more—to get a permit starting January 1.
The rule will use the new fees to fund better boat inspections — a measure designed to stop invasive mussels from damaging our waterways.
Salem riders on e-bikes and e-scooters must follow Oregon law, which treats e-bikes like regular bicycles but bans them from sidewalks while requiring riders to be at least 16 and limits e-scooters to 15 mph with no passengers.
Riders should check posted trail and beach signs for where these vehicles are allowed —Salem officials say there are no extra local rules— to stay safe this summer.
