Rescue teams from Silverton Fire District, Salem Fire Department, and Marion County Search and Rescue used 300-foot ropes and a mechanical system to save an injured hiker who fell from a steep cliff near Abiqua Falls on July 3 — he was brought to safety by 7:19 p.m.

Oregon State Parks now allow most e-bikes to use bike trails except in areas where signs prohibit them — riders must follow rules that limit speed and require yielding to pedestrians, horses, and slower users.

The rules cover all three e-bike classes and give rangers the authority to issue fines for violations.

Oregon lawmakers passed a bill that lets the nine recognized tribes create and run their own early learning programs with money given directly by the Department of Early Learning and Care— the bill now awaits the governor’s signature.

This step removes old restrictions and supports tribal self-determination in early learning.

The Oregon Department of Administrative Services commissioned a third-party audit of the Motor Voter program last fall after data entry errors emerged, a step directed by Governor Tina Kotek and Secretary of State Tobias Read.

The audit found that new controls at ODOT and SOS are largely effective—additional recommendations are now being implemented to further secure the system.

The City of Salem will begin work on July 7 to stabilize Shelton Ditch between Ford Street SE and 25th Street SE; work on the south embankment will close the Ford Street SE Bridge for detoured traffic until the project is finished by the end of August, then workers will move to stabilize the north embankment along 24th Street SE for local traffic only.
