Salem is undergoing summer construction projects that are improving roads, parks & public facilities.
Work includes pavement rehabilitation, park expansions with new play areas, and seismic retrofits on the Civic Center; some projects will finish in September or November while others are set to be completed through early 2027.
Salem will see a busy week as Marion Berries play Portland Pickles on July 2 — an outdoor market opens downtown and Chemeketa Community College presents Mean Girls the Musical at Riverfront Park during the week.
On June 30, Oregon marked five years of wildfire programs by the State Fire Marshal.
The Fire Adapted and Response Ready programs trained over 500 assessors plus delivered 76 fire engines to local agencies, and will boost home hardening grants and staffing for growing wildfire risks.
Oregon employers can use the Employment Department's Work Share program to reduce staff hours instead of laying off workers, with partial UI benefits helping cover lost wages.
The program offers weekly info webinars on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m., and more details are available from the OED.
