Salem's Fourth of July Spectacular will be held on July 4 at the Oregon State Fairgrounds with family-friendly activities, carnival rides, live music, and a fireworks show starting at 10 p.m. A ($10 parking fee) applies.

Three Oregon cities were named among the 100 best places to live.

Salem ranked 72 with a score of 677 (thanks to its strong environment and transportation), while Eugene and Gresham earned higher rankings based on livability factors.

Under Oregon law, a person may enter a locked car to rescue an unattended child or pet in imminent danger but must call police first and use only minimal force.

Rescuers must stay nearby until law enforcement or the owner arrives.

Oregon law requires drivers in the left lane to shift right if they travel slower than the normal flow of traffic; local officers say keeping to the proper lane helps ease congestion (a key safety measure) on state highways.
