COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Salem’s splash pads will reopen on June 13—the day after school ends—after city staff complete inspections and repairs that began later than usual due to a May 20 vote on a local funding measure; if no major repairs are needed, they will be ready for public use.  1430 KYKN

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On June 5, 2025 just before 10:00 p.m.—emergency responders found a collision on Lancaster Dr SE at Glenwood Dr SE in Salem where 33-year-old Jesse Wadley on a motorcycle was taken to Salem Hospital and later died while the vehicle driver remained at the scene and a passenger was injured as investigators examined high-speed travel as a factor.  1430 KYKN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Edgar Duran Alvarez, a McKay graduate, showed passion for math in Advanced Placement calculus as his teacher Emily York helped him earn an award from the Optimist Club and 12 college credits. He will start basic training at Fort Sill in August and then study at Chemeketa Community College to become a pediatrician while keeping math as a key part of his future—he values how math helps solve many problems.  Salem Reporter
