- ➤ A 2026 Count shows Central Oregon’s homelessness decreased by 19.1% (1,706 people counted), while nearby Marion and Polk counties reported 2,154 individuals without stable housing in 2025. Salem officials are expanding shelter and outreach programs and will soon track if these measures bring similar progress to the community. Salem Business Journal

- ➤ In 2025, the Oregon Capital Chronicle earned seven regional journalism awards after its team captured top honors in general excellence, government, and federal impact reporting. - ➤ Allyssa Christensen from McNary High School led blood drives and organized veteran events — key projects in her service efforts — for her community. The graduating senior will attend the University of Oregon to pursue a career teaching elementary students. Salem Reporter

- ➤ Salem City Council approved franchise licenses for fiber-optic cable installation to boost high-speed internet near homes and businesses. - ➤ Oregon Housing and Community Services has announced that IHA provides temporary rent and utility aid until June 30 for wildfire survivors in designated counties (Clackamas, Douglas, Jackson, Klamath, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, and Marion).
