COMMUNITY NEWS

  • River Rd N will be closed tomorrow for the annual KeizerFest Parade — Lockhaven Dr. N closes at 6:45 a.m. for parade staging and traffic will be diverted via Chemawa Rd and Windsor Island Rd. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. and traffic may resume around 12:30 p.m.  1430 KYKN

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Jerry Highsmith, an 80-year-old hiker from Lebanon, was found near Duffy Lake in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness on Friday, May 14 after multiple days lost and showing signs of exposure, and rescue teams with ground searchers, drones, and an Army National Guard helicopter are taking him to a hospital.  Statesman Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • KeizerFEST runs May 14-17 with a parade on May 16 that will close River Road and nearby streets for staging (starting at 6:45 a.m. with traffic resuming around 12:30 p.m.); the celebration at Keizer Rapids Park also features live music, food trucks, and family activities.  Statesman Journal
  • On May 14, the Social Security Administration released Oregon’s 2025 baby name list, with Oliver remaining top for boys for the tenth straight year + Charlotte debuting as the leading name for girls among over 39,000 births statewide. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting June 1, all SNAP households will need to complete an interview before benefits are approved. This change ends the temporary pandemic exemption (ended May 31) and returns the program to standard federal rules to ensure benefits match current household needs.  1430 KYKN
