  • The Bloomin’ Iris KeizerFEST Parade will pause traffic on River Road in Keizer on Saturday, May 16, starting at 10:30 a.m.— authorities will begin street closures at 6:45 a.m. to stage the event and protect pedestrians.  Salem Reporter
  • Salem neighborhood associations are hosting various events this May and beyond to foster community engagement — Highland holds an annual meeting tomorrow at Center 50+ while Northgate meets in person on May 21 with state officials, and a joint 50th anniversary celebration is planned for later months.  Salem Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marion County Commissioner Danielle Bethell, state Rep. Ed Diehl, Sen. Christine Drazan and Chris Dudley offered plans to improve education as Oregon remains low in fourth grade reading and math rankings. They will focus on local school control + new discipline and curriculum policies ahead of the May 19 primary.  Statesman Journal

  • Drivers on Verda Lane in Keizer should expect periodic lane closures as ADOT adds sidewalks and bike lanes between Ascot Lane and Dearborn Avenue — work will occur weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. — as part of a $10 million project to finish this year.  Statesman Journal
