- ➤ Keizer police arrested 25-year-old transient Luis Angel Escobedo-Castaneda on April 30 behind Dutch Brothers Coffee on River Rd. N. after a caller reported his suspicious behavior, with officers finding a firearm on him, four burglary firearms, and psychedelic mushrooms, and he faced charges for first-degree burglary, theft, unlawful firearm possession & controlled substance possession. 1430 KYKN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Salem — Oregon Housing and Community Services reported promising progress from its Pre-Development and Capacity-Building grant program which provided $1.6 million to 14 nonprofit developers statewide to expand affordable homeownership. Nonprofits like Big River Community Land Trust and Sammy’s Place used the funds to hire staff and prepare projects for further state support. 1430 KYKN
- ➤ The Oregon Department of Transportation will close major parts of the Center Street Bridge and Front Street from 9 p.m. today until 5 a.m. May 8 to let a snooper truck inspect the structure for a planned seismic retrofit. Northbound Front Street will stay partly open while southbound is closed and off-ramps and some lanes on the bridge will be briefly stopped for equipment moves—traffic will be directed further down Center Street.
