ECONOMY NEWS

  • Four winning Powerball tickets sold across Oregon fetched $7 million in prizes for the April 29 drawing. Three $2 million tickets came from Coos Bay, Creswell, and Medford while a $1 million ticket was sold in Gresham, and winners can claim their prizes at Lottery offices in Salem or Wilsonville.  Statesman Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chemeketa Community College was approved to offer a new Bachelor of Applied Science in Education degree as part of the statewide BASE initiative; the program will begin Fall 2027 and build a local pathway for future teachers while capping enrollment at 30 students (to support quality instruction).  1430 KYKN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rising rents have increased average unit costs to about $1,100, straining Salem Housing Authority's assistance for 3,096 leased households out of 3,302 vouchers; the agency paused its $50,000 Short-Term Stability Support Fund after 94 applications and is reviewing rent increases plus adjustments by zip code.  Salem Business Journal
  • Today, roads near the Capitol and Capitol Mall will be closed from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. for an International Workers' Day march sponsored by SEIU 503 and other groups, affecting Center, Cottage, State, Waverly, and Capitol streets NE.  Statesman Journal
  • Oregon approved more than $65 million from the Purdue Pharma settlement for addiction and recovery programs; 55% will support cities and counties and 45% will go to the state board set up by HB 4098 — further payments will be made over 15 years.  Statesman Journal
