  • Residents can enjoy events in Salem this week. On Friday, May 1, an art walk and a McKay High School benefit concert will take place — Saturday, May 2 features Sheep to Shawl at the Heritage Center, free comic books at Radar Toys and an underground market at Blast Off Vintage.  Salem Reporter
  • On March 7, 2026, about 140 community members joined Salem’s 14th annual CrossWalk fundraiser (which began and ended at Riverfront Park) to support victims; on April 24, representatives presented a $70,000 check to District Attorney Paige Clarkson to fund vital victim services.  1430 KYKN
  • Oregon OSHA and the Oregon Labor Federation held a Workers' Memorial Day ceremony yesterday at the Labor and Industries Building to honor local workers who died on the job in 2025 + Gov. Tina Kotek and union leaders participated.  Statesman Journal

  • Jim Sparkman, owner and principal broker of HomeSmart Realty Group and command sergeant major of the 7th Psychological Operations Group, received the Legion of Merit (a prestigious military honor) for exceptionally meritorious service.
