COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lloyd Beutler, who helped build I-84 and I-205, turned 100 on March 7 and celebrated with family at The Springs Living in Lancaster. Born in 1926 to a farming family east of Salem, he served during the Korean War operating heavy equipment.  Salem Reporter

CULTURE NEWS

  • Salem hosts family-friendly events this week. Oregon Ag Fest runs at the fairgrounds on April 25-26, and a luau is scheduled on April 25 at 12th St. Other events include a Saturday Market dance and a McNary music concert at Elsinore Theatre on April 29 (details vary by event).  Salem Reporter

HEALTH NEWS

  • Santiam Hospital purchased the former U.S. Bank building on Highway 22 in Mill City for $500,000 and will remodel it into Santiam Pharmacy - providing walk-in and drive-through services for a community without a pharmacy since 2020.  Statesman Journal

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Patrick Carney and his partners are listing the former Macy's building next to Salem Center Mall for roughly $7.9 million to free up capital and bring in a new investor. The 188,500 sqft property has experienced seven break-ins (incurring more than $70,000 in repair costs) amid ongoing downtown safety challenges.  Salem Business Journal
