  • Railroad officials said that on April 9, a few unusually long trains from Vancouver blocked the only entrance at Minto-Brown Island Park for a short time. The report notes the issue was one-time & officials plan to adjust schedules to reduce future disruptions.  Salem Reporter

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Alaska Airlines & Hawaiian Airlines raised checked bag fees on North American flights effective April 10 due to higher fuel costs. Oregon travelers now pay $45 for a first checked bag, $55 for a second, and $200 for additional bags.  Statesman Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Salem continues cleanup work at Block 50 (a downtown redevelopment site in predevelopment) as the Urban Renewal Agency reviews a report on Monday that details a $45,500 contract with Stantec Consulting for environmental monitoring and regulatory tasks.   • Governor Kotek signed the Healthcare Without Fear Act into law on April 9, ensuring hospitals protect patient information & hold federal immigration agents to local law enforcement standards.
