- ➤ Salem poets are hosting two events this weekend to celebrate National Poetry Month. A workshop led by Renee Roman Nose takes place today from 10 a.m. to noon at the Bush Barn Art Center—where the fee is $25 or what you can afford—and a free poetry reading with Roman Nose and Trevino Brings Plenty occurs on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Dye House. - ➤ On March 17th, high school students from Salem’s Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) won first place at the Oregon ProStart Culinary Invitational Championship with a restaurant concept and earned a spot to represent Oregon at the national championship in Baltimore scheduled for May 2-4. They competed at the Salem Convention Center against teams from seven high schools and presented a farm-to-table dining model that focused on nature. Salem Business Journal

- ➤ Marion County public safety officials plan a multi-agency team to address rising gang and youth violence after a review found that shootings outside Salem more than tripled over the past decade—officials said the team will focus on mentorship, enforcement and community outreach. Salem Reporter
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Oregon Department of Human Services launched a new free brain injury program on April 4th to help people with brain injuries and their loved ones access support and services. The program offers one-on-one support—personalized referrals, resource navigation, and service coordination by phone Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an advisory committee now recruiting members. 1430 KYKN
